A Science Stream student (Physics, Chemistry and Biology student) can opt for Home Science, Food Technology or Nutrition Course after his 10+2. You can pursue these courses in graduation and post graduation level. If you're pursuing this course in graduation, you can pursue a B. Sc in Home Science from any prestigious university. However, if you want to specialise in dietetics and nutrition in post graduation level, you can pursue M.Sc in Food and Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition, Food Service Management or one year post graduate diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition.

What are the Career Opportunities in this field?

With health concerns rising, there are ample job opportunities for professionals in this field. You can find employment in hospitals, fitness centres, spas, health clubs, colleges, nursing care facilities, canteens, hotels, government, etc. You can also work as consultants or do private practice. The starting salary in this field is around Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.

    Even if the top listed universities seem to be fine, the starting salary mentioned in this article is heavily misleading. I am a dietitian who has completed my dietetics from one of the top univeristies (though it is not listed here) but at any rate the starting salary was 6000 odd about 2 years back. Nowadays it has been raised to 15000 CTC which again means you get about 10000 in hand. Please know your stakes before joining this profession. Though later on there is a chance you would do well but there is a long struggle before that

    hi am a graduate in commerce and a MBA in FB&E from Nirma University
    i wanted to know if i am eligible to take up a course on nutritionist from Delhi university. because of what i understand from the eligiblity criteria is that only a science student can persue this kind of course.

    I am ph.D in foods and Nutrition and working hard specially for community nutrition and clinical dietetics.Working as assistant professor at MPUAT,Udaipur Has an experience of 13 years in teaching and research and contributed several papers in indian and international journals.
