    Hello Aravind,

I perceive you have graduated from Chennai Mathematical Institute and is further considering higher education from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Though the university offers a Masters in Physics, the university has designed the programs that are route to research work and since you are considering the same, it takes you closer to your career goals.

Though one of the esteemed and prestigious institutes in India, the institute offers PhD in basic Physics and from what I have searched the institute has core faculty in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Nuclear & Atomic Physics etc. This does however, constitute the field of your interest. In fact you will hardly come across any option that offers research options solely in Cosmology.

Now with regard to the application procedure, though you can apply manually, it is preferable to consider the online application. Also, make the arrangements to comply with the payment as per the choice of the mode of sending the application.

Apart from the application formalities, you will also have to take the entrance exams to qualify for the degree followed by an interview. Also, if you have good academic grades, you can directly consider a PhD.

Do get back with the campus you are considering so that we can guide you better. I would recommend you give a thought to other options like Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Koramangala Bangalore, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (I.U.C.A.A.), Pune, Indian Institute of Science (I.I.Sc.), Bangalore, Osmania University, Hyderabad etc.

    I hope this helps!

    Good luck!
